An old mattress is one of the most awkward things to get rid of in Dubai. It is too big for the bin room, most charities will not take it, and your building will not thank you for leaving it in the corridor. Here are the realistic options, what each costs in time and money, and how to get a mattress out of a tower or villa without a fuss.
Why mattresses are harder than other furniture
Three things make mattresses a special case. First, hygiene: almost every charity refuses used mattresses, however clean they look, so donation is rarely an option. Second, size: a king mattress does not bend easily, which makes lifts, stairwells and tight corridors difficult. Third, materials: springs, foam, fabric and glue are bonded together, so a mattress cannot simply go into a general recycling stream.
There are exceptions. If your mattress is genuinely clean, dry and free of stains or sagging, you can check mattress donation in Dubai by sending a photo first.
That is why a mattress that sits in a storeroom “until we sort it out” often stays there for months.
Option 1: Ask the shop when you buy a new one
Some mattress and furniture retailers will take your old mattress away when they deliver the new one, sometimes for a fee. Ask before you pay for the new mattress, not on delivery day, because the delivery crew can only take what is on the order. If this is available, it is usually the simplest route for a single mattress.
Option 2: Municipality bulky waste collection
Municipal bulky-item collection is low cost, but it runs on a schedule rather than on demand, and you normally have to bring the mattress to the collection point yourself. It works if you have time and only one or two items. It does not work well with a fixed move-out date.
Option 3: Sell or give away
A mattress that is less than a year or two old, still in good condition and ideally from a known brand can sometimes find a buyer or taker online. Expect questions about stains, smoke and pets, and expect some people to back out once they see it. For most used mattresses, this route takes longer than people hope.
Option 4: Book a removal crew
This is the quickest option. A crew collects from inside your apartment or villa, carries it down, and takes it away the same day. For a single mattress in Dubai expect AED 250 to 400, the same range as a single sofa. It becomes much better value when you add the bed frame, a wardrobe or anything else you were planning to clear, because the crew and truck are already there.
What happens to your mattress after collection
Once it reaches our yard, a mattress is checked and sorted like everything else. The steel springs can be recovered for scrap, and clean timber from the base can be reused. Mattresses that are soiled, wet or badly damaged go to landfill, and we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend they are recycled. Getting a mattress out of a tower building
- Book the service lift. Most towers do not allow furniture in passenger lifts. A confirmed slot saves waiting and stops the crew being turned away.
- Measure the lift. King and super-king mattresses sometimes only fit standing up in a service lift, and memory foam ones can be surprisingly heavy.
- Strip the bedding the day before. Remove sheets, toppers and protectors so the mattress can go straight out.
- Tell building security. Some buildings want to know about any large item leaving, particularly at the end of a tenancy.
In high-rise areas such as Dubai Marina, Business Bay and Downtown Dubai, the lift booking is usually the only part that needs planning in advance.
Villas and multiple mattresses
Villas often have more mattresses than people realise: guest rooms, maid’s rooms and old children’s beds in storage. If you are clearing a villa in Arabian Ranches, The Springs or elsewhere, walk every room and count them before you ask for a price. Holiday home operators and accommodation managers replacing several mattresses at once should mention the number up front, since a larger load is priced as one job rather than per piece.
If there are bed bugs
Tell us when you book so the crew can plan for it. The mattress needs to be fully wrapped in plastic before it leaves the room so the problem does not travel through the corridor, the lift or the truck. You can buy mattress disposal bags at most hardware stores. Do not drag an infested mattress through the building unwrapped.
Moving out? Do it with the rest of the clearance
